How do I make sure that i am buying the right color?
There are two easy ways to be sure.
One is to locate your vehicles identifying sticker that provides the original manufacturers product id and use our Paint Search By OEM Code link. We have just built this new web site and we are currently converting our help page for locating this sticker and will have it online shortly. Generally these stickers are located either in the door jam or under the hood. Please call us for help.

A second way, is to locate the color on the color chart for your vehicle which will often provide you with OEM and often the corresponding PPG Code. For domestic vehicles from 1980 to present, we currently have a limited quantity of color chart books for each year available in our accessories area. (View). We also have colors charts for these and earlier years that we are converting to our new site. You look for vehicle with our Color Chart Help Link, but there are only a few charts converted at this time. Please call us for help.

For Fleets we have a Search by Fleet. For Specially Paints, you can use our Search By Color Name or contact us about the available color chips. If you are trying to match from paint you already have, you can Search by Manufacturer. We can also provide professional matching from a sample. Please contact us for help.

Remember, that even with an exact match, sun and other environmental elements can fade or alter the paint color and shine. The older the vehicle, the more likely that you will not have a 100% color match.

Still in doubt, consider purchasing a 2 oz. Touch-Up bottle or 12 oz. Spray to test match before purchasing larger sizes.


What else do I need to purchase with my paint?
Assuming by this question that you are not own a body shop or a professional refinishing center and you are not just purchasing a touch-up or Spray Can for a small repair, then you will need to have equipment and accessories for sanding and preparing the surface and applying the primer, base, top coat and / or clearcoat as required. Even for a small touch up you will need to prepare the surface and depending on paint type (system), need the right products to apply to get a good match.

For Accessories:
Whether you are a professional refinisher, restoring a classic, or just need to make a small repair, we have all the accessories to help you complete the job right. We are currently reloading our accessory catalog to our new online store. If you don't see what you need, please call for pricing and to purchase.

For purchasing paint:
Each paint code is for a specific type of paint. Depending on the model and age of your vehicle, different paint systems were used. For example, one may require a base coat and a clearcoat application while others may require a primer and a pearlcoat with our without a clearcoat. While a primer and clearcoat will not change color match, it will affect the visibility of repairs. We will be offering kits on line and will be glad to discuss the specific needs for your vehicle depending on paint type.

All our paint is shipped "Spray Ready" unless otherwise noted.

Use of your Personal information
We neither sell nor share your information with outside companies or third parties. When you purchase from our online store, we collect your name, billing and shipping addresses, phone number, e-mail address, and credit card information solely for the purpose of processing your order and servicing your needs.

We hate Spam and junk mail as much as you do! We respect your privacy by not selling or sharing this information. We only use your email and other contact information to confirm your order and to contact you regarding your order or account.

We may from time to time offer special promotions or to send out news about our industry or new products or services. If these are available, you will be able to sign for them in the "My Account" section of our site. By default YOU ARE NOT signed up. You must specifically request to receive these items and can remove that request at any time.

Protection of your Credit Card and Personal Data
Your credit card information is only stored with your order, therefore, even if someone would gain access to your account, they would not be able to obtain or use your credit card.

Our web site account section is protected by encryption software (SSL certificate) so that when you are providing account and payment information, it is transferred in an encrypted and therefore safe and secure manner. You will see the lock appear in your browser on the account and checkout processing pages.

We offer two ways to purchase your products.
OPTION 1: Check-Out Without Setting up an Account.
With this option we still need to ask for all of your contact and payment information to process your order. This this information is only used to process your payment, contact you about your order and to ship your order

OPTION 2: Set up an access an Account with us.
This option only requires a few additional items including assigning a user name and password for security. This options provides the benefits of being able to check your order status, review past orders, make address and other account changes, and makes it easier to process future orders.

Matching your Paint Color
The single concern in purchasing paint is selecting the correct color and type of paint for your vehicle or other painting projects. Please use the help provided on our site to make sure you are ordering the correct color and type of paint.

The easiest way to assure a match is to use the the paint code (OEM Code) found on your vehicle. If you are ordering fleet paint or one of our specialty paints, you can also verify color from available paint chips, books or fans. If you have any doubt regarding a color match, please contact our customer service staff and we will be glad to assist you.

We are not responsible for paint ordered without checking your color code or when ordered with the wrong code. We can not accept returns or provide refunds when the wrong paint is ordered. Color may not be a perfect match if the vehicle color has faded or if the vehicle has been repainted.

We will replace any paints that were made wrong by us and ship the replacement paint to you at no charge. There is no refund for paint. Your remedy is limited to replacing your paint order with the correct color.

IMPORTANT: Always test color match. Please follow instructions below for testing your color before applying to your vehicle. Removing paint requires automotive thinners or, when dry, re-sanding.

Verifying and Testing Color Match

Before you Order:
Before you order your paint, make sure you have the right product.
At P.P.G. Car Paints, we have paint for over a hundred years of vehicles and for many specialty and fleet requirements. The best way to assure accuracy is to use the vehicles paint identification code or the codes from the manufacturers paint chip.

We are currently building a cross reference list with images from our paint charts to better serve you. Please call if you need any assistance.

It is expensive to mix and ship the wrong paint and we can not refund or exchange paint that was ordered wrong. If there is a concern over the match based on unknown data, repainted vehicles that may not match the original or older vehicle that may have faded, try just ordering a touch up bottle first to test the color match.

Testing your paint:
Before begriming, ALWAYS test the color match either to your existing car color or to the desired color to make sure it is correct. Applying paint to your vehicle could require automotive paint thinners or having to re-sand and re-prime the area painted.

If the paint color is way off, (not even close) check the paint provided with your order and original information on the color code to confirm if the wrong product was ordered of if there was a mix up in your order.

If the color is only slightly off, this may be due to fading, other environment issues, or may be result of the vehicle having been repainted. For later model cars, checking the paint against the inner door jams may tell you if you have the correct match. If your test sample is off, it will not be corrected by primer or pearl coat.

If the paint is slightly off, please follow the instructions for requesting a replacement. By sending us a sample, we will check against our color chip for the paint ordered. If the formulation is off, we will replace the paint. If the match is exact, we may still be able to rectify the problem.

Returns and Exchanges

Canceling an Order:
Paints and custom orders:
There are literally hundreds of thousands of color combinations, and once your paint is mixed which is usually done within hours of your order, it is unlikely that it can be resold. Therefore orders can not be cancelled and paint can not be returned when the wrong color is ordered.

Other Items:
There will be a 10% restocking fee plus shipping and handling charges (if applicable) deducted from any orders of non-paint or non-custom products that are cancelled.

Refusing a shipment.
We can not refund your money if you refuse to accept the order that has been shipped. No exceptions!

Replacements:
If we made a mistake and shipped the wrong paint or paint color other then what is on your order, we would be glad to replace the paint at no cost to you. Either contact our customer service staff or fill out our replacement form. You will need to brush some paint on the card that was enclosed with your paint order so that we can compare the paint to the manufacturers color chip. Simply enclose this sample with your form.

Returns:
We can not accept returns of any items that were custom made including paint mixed to your color. We will replace paint at no charge if we made a mistake in mixing the color. Other products may be returned with an approved Return Material Authorization Number (RMA #), for a period of 15 days from the order. First contact our customer service staff for a return authorization and make sure the package is clearly marked with this number. We will not accept packages without a valid RMA #.

Make sure you follow the shipper's guidelines and federal and/or state regulations regarding shipment of hazardous materials

Shipping Policies

Orders for paints received prior to 1:00PM Eastern Standard Time will normally be shipped out the same day.

All orders are shipped by UPS. Our checkout process offers multiple shipping choices that depend on options available from UPS for your ship to address. We offer both domestic and foreign shipping options, however you may need to contact customer service should you not see specific options for your address.
